Roberts Reservoir project

Aqwest has purchased a property on Roberts Crescent to improve slope stability and accessibility to one of its key water storage facilities, located directly next door.

Combining the two sites will allow Aqwest to carry out important earthworks designed to ensure the stability of the water storage for generations to come.

The property extends over four individual titles and includes the former GWN7 building and old satellite dishes, which will be removed to allow a more gradual slope gradient on the north side of the reservoir.

Aqwest finalised the purchase in June 2021 and removal of the buildings will start in February 2022.

The removal of the buildings will take one to two months and materials will be recycled and repurposed where possible.  Memorabilia from the GWN7 building have been donated to the Bunbury Museum for display.  A plaque constructed from some of the building material recycled during the works, will commemorate the site of the former GWN7 building.

Final works will be completed in mid-2023.

Improvements to Roberts Reservoir

In recent years Aqwest has undertaken a major slope stability improvements at the Roberts Crescent Reservoir.

Improvements included revegetating the banks with native plant species, construction of  a 2m high limestone block retaining wall at the top of the slope and installation of a palisade security fence on the wall.

The works included adding 5250m3 of fill to the embankment, laying 4104 limestone retaining blocks and planting 72,016 plants.

“Not only are the banks more stable and less prone to erosion, but additional vegetation and trees will greatly improve the amenity of the area for the local community,” said Aqwest Principal Asset Strategy and Risk Cristiano Carvalho.
