Winter Sprinkler Switch Off

The Winter Sprinkler Switch Off is a water efficiency initiative that applies to scheme and bore water users between 1 June and 31 August each year.

Businesses and households are required to switch off sprinklers between 1 June and 31 August, to help save water for when we need it most.

The switch off is a permanent water efficiency initiative that applies to scheme and bore water users, in addition to many licensed groundwater users. It helps prevent wastage of our water supply and saves it for the drier months. Evaporation rates are low in winter and there is usually sufficient rainfall to sustain lawns and gardens.

Hand watering is permitted during this period, however please consider whether your lawn and garden is receiving the water it needs from rainfall. The Switch off does not apply to irrigation systems that use water collected by rainwater tanks.

Since being introduced in 2010, the annual Winter Sprinkler Switch Off has saved around 60 billion litres of water in WA.
