Water Recovery Scheme to green 43 hectares of public open space
Construction has commenced on the Aqwest Bunbury Water Recovery Scheme - a long-term water security initiative for the South West.
Aqwest Bunbury Water will construct and operate the advanced water recycling facility alongside the Water Corporation Bunbury Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dalyellup.
A four-kilometre pipeline will supply recycled water at the nation’s highest standards, greening 43 hectares of public open space, including the Hay Park Sporting Precinct.
In addition, the City of Bunbury’s irrigation systems at the sporting complex will be upgraded to achieve industry best practice, improving water efficiency by 20 per cent, with recycled water being delivered by Summer 2027.
This facility will join around 80 other water recycling schemes in operation in Western Australia providing climate resilient, fit-for-purpose water to communities and industry. This National Water Grid project is jointly funded by the Albanese and Cook Governments, the Aqwest Bunbury Water Recovery Scheme Project will also reduce reliance on the local aquifer.
